Application of H.263+ Video Coding Modes in Lossy Packet Network Environments

چکیده
The quality of real-time audio and video information transmitted via today’s Internet suffers severely from often significant packet losses. While this problem is well understood and solved for existing audio coding schemes, support from the video coding standards themselves is required for video streams. This paper presents the newly introduced error resilience mechanisms built into the second version of H.263 (1998), known under its working name H.263+, and addresses the corresponding packetization format issues that together significantly improve the image quality at packet loss rates up to 20 per cent. In particular, it is support from the video coding algorithm itself peered with appropriate transport layer mechanisms that leads to significant improvements of perceived image quality for communicative as well as retrieval applications at moderate bit rates up to some 100 kbit/s.

A Method to Reduce Effects of Packet Loss in Video Streaming Using Multiple Description Coding
Multiple description (MD) coding has evolved as a promising technique for promoting error resiliency of multimedia system in real-time application programs over error-prone communicational channels. Although multiple description lattice vector quantization (MDCLVQ) is an efficient method for transmitting reliable data in the context of potential error channels, this method doesn’t consider disc...

This paper considers the problem of real-time point to point video transmission over the public Internet. A set of techniques in the direction of packet loss resilience of video compressed streams is presented. Aiming at a best trade-oo between compression eeciency and packet loss resilience, a procedure for adapting the video coding modes and quantizer parameters to varying network characteris...
متن کاملModeling and Evaluating Feedback-Based Error Control for Video Transfer
Packet loss can be detrimental to real-time interactive video over lossy networks because one lost video packet can propagate errors to many subsequent video frames due to the encoding dependency between frames. Feedback-based error control techniques use feedback information from the decoder to adjust coding parameters at the encoder or retransmit lost packets to reduce the error propagation d...
متن کاملRfc 2190 Rtp
This document specifies the payload format for encapsulating an H.263 bitstream in the Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP). Three modes are defined for the H.263 payload header. An RTP packet can use one of the three modes for H.263 video streams depending on the desired network packet size and H.263 encoding options employed. The shortest H.263 payload header (mode A) supports fragmentation at ...
متن کاملRNC: Redundant and Random Network Coding for Robust H.264/SVC Transmission
In this paper we are interested in improving the performance of constructive network coding schemes for video transmission over packet lossy networks. A novel unequal packet loss protection scheme RNC based on low-triangular global coding matrix with ladder-shaped partition will be presented, which combines redundant and random network coding for robust H.264/SVC video transmission. Firstly, th...
